The name Retourne is translated as "reversed", referring to the inside-out construction of the Kelly. During the creation process, the artisan will turn the Retourne Kelly inside out so the stitching is hidden, then add leather piping to the outside seams, not unlike the Birkin. This results in rounded corners and edges, which helps acheive a casual and relaxed appearance while allowing increased storage. The Kelly Retourne is usually constructed with soft leathers, such as Togo and Clemence, adding to the soft and supple characteristics. Alternatively, the Sellier is typically constructed in firmer leathers such as Epsom which results in a more rigid, structured, and formal look. No matter which you decide on, its hard to go wrong with either.
